Milk Oats actions are antidepressant, demulcent, nervine, nutritive, and tonic.
This combination of actions may seem minor, but together they form a powerful tonic that is focused on the nervous system. Milky oats are known to help un-frazzle nerves, relieving anxiety, tension, and even panic attacks. It's been used to treat insomnia and sexual dysfunction when caused by nervous energy. Traditionally, milky oats have also been used to aid in soothing the symptoms of withdrawal from caffeine, nicotine, opiates, and alcohol.
Harvesting milk oats must be timed correctly. The correct timing is when you can squeeze the oat, and it leaks out a white sap or 'milk'. This happens a couple of weeks after the oat looks split, at least in my experience. See video above for a demonstration.

The white sap is a lot of what we are looking to save when using milky oats for medicine. It does not retain all its potency when dehydrated. You can either tincture the oats immediately after harvesting or freeze them to use or process later.

Common dosing is 3-5ml of tincture, three times a day.
